James A. Turner, Inc. was founded over 55 years ago in Ambler, PA.  Jim Turner, Sr. purchased a 1948 Ford six-wheel dump truck.  He was employed hauling stone for James D. Morrisey, Company operating from his home.  Business was prosperous and Jim started to add new vehicles to his fleet.  Jim purchased tractor-trailers and expanded.  As his fleet grew, he bought a parcel of property on North Main street in Ambler, PA for his garage.

After 10 years, Jim expanded further, hauling for a second quarry, Better Materials Corp., located in Penns park and Ottsville, PA.  Jim realized that the hauling of stone products was seasonal.  He obtained Public Utility Commission rights and he began hauling fuel oil for various customers as a common contract carrier.

As James A. Turner Trucking expanded, Jim Sr. realized the need to purchase another piece of property which he found in Ambler at 161 South Main Street.  In May of 1963, Jim incorporated his operation.  The  fleet was decreased to nine trucks.  Also, further expansion in the repairs of cars and trucks in the area led to the organization Ridge Auto and Truck Center.  Ridge Auto also grew to Ridge Car Parts and Ridge Tire Sales, followed by a completed machine shop, and a Firestone tire dealership.

In 1983, James A. Turner, Inc. filed and received Interstate and Commerce Commission rights for various east-coast states to expand our truck travels even further to other states.  The company now has over 100 customers for hauling sand, stone, oil gasoline and fertilizer.

In the spring of 1986, James A. Turner, Inc. had the opportunity to start a leased operators program which grew to as many as 25 leased operators.  At that time two successful corporations were operating from one building.  Jim Jr. managed the trucking operation, and Ron managed Ridge Auto and Truck Center.

James A. Turner. Inc. continued to expand and started to haul products out of the Bucks County area more often.  In 1988, Jim Sr., Jim Jr., and Ron found five acres of land on Old Bethlehem Pike in Hilltown Township, and relocated to Souderton.  The company constructed another building for trucking repairs and operations.  A new truck repair facility was formed with the new building, called Souderton Truck Center.  Souderton Truck Center accommodates the 4 bay garage now.  For 10 years, Souderton Truck Center has grown with over fifty accounts and provides for around twenty percent of yearly sales.  James A. Turner, Inc. employs around 40-50 people, which contains James A. Turner Trucking, Ridge Auto, which is still in Ambler, and Souderton Truck Center.

The trucking company has also grown substantially since the move to Souderton.  James A. Turner Trucking hauls to all of the east coast.  The company has serviced AT&T in recycling copper wire to South Carolina.  Also our trucks haul decorative stone to Florida for Delaware Valley Landscaping and others.  We even delivered a sign to Times Square in New York City.  Our business has also increased by hauling petroleum and lubricants.
